Description

Rapid Hero is a futuristic vertically scrolling top-down shooter for one or two players simultaneously using the same screen. The player controls a ship that can be freely moved around the screen. There are eight stages in total, both set in space as well as on a planet. The ship has an unlimited amount of bullets and the weapon fires in bursts, so tapping is needed. The game strings together large waves of enemies with many boss fights in typical bullet hell style. To progress it is often required to upgrade the weapon with power-ups that stack. They are left behind by destroyed enemies. Next to the regular upgrades (P icons), additional weapon upgrades include lasers (L icons), cluster bombs (M icons) and homing missiles (H). A credit consists of three lives and when the ship is destroyed after one hit. When killed a small number of power-ups is released and these can be picked up again to regain part of the upgrades.

Next to the regular weapons there is a special weapon in the form of a large explosion that deals a lot of damage. These blasts can be replenished by picking up B icons. The scoring system encourages risks as points are provided through stars left behind by destroyed enemies. Collecting these stars increases the point values starting from 100 up to 5,000. There is no time pressure to keep picking them up, but when the player's ship is destroyed the stars value is reset. Points are also awarded for every hit even if a ship is not destroyed. The boss is a returning character for each stage as a giant flying robot that takes on many forms.
