Description

Golly! Ghost! is a light gun shooter and ticket redemption game for one or two players set inside a haunted house. The opening scene starts with a cloud moving in front of the moon and four ghosts, colored blue, yellow, green and red all fly into a mansion where all the lights go out. The players have to clear the house by shooting wave after wave of ghosts.

The players are named Zip and Zap, with a blue gun on the left and a red gun on the right. The game takes place in a single screen with the 5 rooms of the house. In the top row there is a bedroom with a clothes closet, next is a toilet and a spare bedroom on the right. On the bottom left there a kitchen with a refrigerator and on the right the main living room with a television and fireplace. The game has 4 scenes to clear and each scene has a bonus character. In scene 1 it's a hamburger, then a football, then a flying shirt, and the final scene has all three bonus characters.

The game uses a unique setup, combining a mechanical diorama with an overlay of video game graphics. The mechanical diorama of the 5 rooms is at bottom of the cabinet facing up. The monitor and diorama are combined using a mirror and a glass pane. During the game, servo motors similar to the ones in pinball machines are used to move several elements. The doors, a chest, the toilet seat and the refrigerator will physically open and close, synchronized to the game graphics so that it looks like ghosts are appearing from them. There is also a separate red LED score board on the marquee of the cabinet.
