Valkyrie No Densetsu artwork Valkyrie no Densetsu (ワルキューレの伝説 Warukyūre no Densetsu, lit. "The Legend of Valkyrie") was released by Namco in 1989 in Arcades and in 1990 on the PC Engine only in Japan. It is a sequel to a Japan-only 1986 Nintendo Family Computer game entitled Valkyrie no Bōken: Toki no Kagi Densetsu. Player one controls Valkyrie while player two controls Krino Sandra (official Namco Museum romanization; he has also been romanized as Xandra, and was also named Whirlo in the English version of Xandra no Daibōken: Valkyrie to no Deai), a green lizard who, despite the name, is actually male (and his resemblance to a lizard isn't obvious). They fight enemies with their sword (Valkyrie) and trident (Sandra). The players can also hold down the attack button to use magic.

Description

Valkyrie no Densetsu is a sequel to Valkyrie no Bōken: Toki no Kagi Densetsu, which puts you in the shoes of a young Valkyrie of Norse mythology as she sets out to reclaim the fabled golden seed, which has been stolen by an evil god.

The gameplay is top-down action with platformer elements, discarding the RPG elements of the previous game. You must navigate the many levels that compose Valhalla and defeat all the enemies in your path while sorting out chasms and other platformer-styled obstacles.

You can also find several NPCs in each stage, who offer gameplay hints, clues and items to buy with the gold stolen from fallen enemies. You can buy health power-ups, improved weapons and even magic spells for added fire-power.
